Testimonials

"This year I had the privilege of participating in the Arizona Black Film Showcase. I was assigned to gather sponsors willing to provide appetizers for over 300 participants at the Showcase’s “Urban Carnival”.  TLC’s Joanna de’Shay used this opportunity to enhance my abilities in marketing, communication (written and oral), contracting and planning.  Step by step, I was supported through a sound process that would develop each of these abilities one by one. We began, with the help of other committee members, pin a solid proposal to the restaurants. Next, I was coached to follow-up through phone calls, e-mails, and personal visits. I met, personally, with the Owners and Chefs of some of Phoenix’s best restaurants and truly learned the value of persistence!  Once we were able to find individuals to commit to the effort she advised me of the importance of the contracting process. The contracting process though frustrating at time helped in the end to ensure that both entities were clear on the expectations. With signed contracts in hand we determined how to plan for the day. Meetings were established with the vendors to locate loading and unloading and the smallest of details such as power supply, tables, and even a plan for weather issues were determined. We were able to secure a total for four vendors to supply us with food that was truly mouthwatering.

After this event I interviewed for a position with the State of Arizona. It was during this interview process I was able to speak to my experience with TLC at the Arizona Black Film Showcase. I was successfully hired for the position with the aid of this experience and the references of TLC members who knew of my value with my enhanced abilities.

Thanks, TLC, for believing in me!"
