The Laser Vein Center for Excellence is a division of the Washington Surgical Group, LLC. It was founded by A.H. Nguyen MD, FACS for the purpose of providing patients suffering with varicose veins the excellence of the most up to date medical management and treatments. Dr Nguyen and his staff are dedicated professionals that are always focused on caring for their patients. From the reception window to the procedure room the patient will find quality staff with a professional attitude always ready to care for your needs.

The Laser Vein Center offers the latest up-to-date techniques and care for the management of varicose veins and other venous disorders. Dr Nguyen and his staff will provide patients with all their needs to care for their varicose veins including the latest in laser technology and low cost compression stockings products.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Laser Vein Center for Excellence is to provide patients of our community who suffer with venous disorders such as varicose veins and Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) with the most up-to-date technologies for management and treatment of the disorder. We strive to provide professional, courteous, and convenient service to our patients.

Meet The Staff

Anhtai H. Nguyen, MD, MBA, FACS, Medical Director

Dr. Nguyen is a board certified general surgeon with an active surgical practice in Hagerstown, Maryland since 2000. Dr. Nguyen provides comprehensive, quality, science based surgical care while specializing in management and treatment of varicose veins and other vein disorders.

Dr. Nguyen is a native of Maryland growing up in Montgomery County and completing his medical training at the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine. He completed his surgical training at MCP Hahnemann University, Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia before returning to Maryland to set up practice. He has undergone extensive training in subcutaneous techniques using ultrasound guidance that allows him to utilize the most up to date treatments in varicose vein management.

Dr. Nguyen recently earned his MBA degree from Marylhurst University in Portland Oregon.

Dr. Nguyen is an expert in ultrasonic evaluation of venous disorders.Dr. Nguyen is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an active member of the American College of Phlebology. He is an active staff member of Washington County Hospital, Frederick Memorial Hospital and Cumberland Valley Surgery Center.

Jeffrey Ware, CFA, Surgical Assistant

Mr. Ware is a board certified surgical assistant with over 30 years experience in general surgery including treatment of varicose veins. Mr. Ware is a Maryland native where he has practiced surgical assisting since 1975. He has assisted Dr. Nguyen since 2000 during all his general surgeries as well as his varicose vein procedures.

Mr. Ware has received extensive training in the latest techniques and procedures in general surgery including vein disorders. He is also an educator who has been involved in the training of other surgical assistants and operating room personnel. He also has been a contributing author with educational textbooks and materials.

Mr. Ware is very active in the local medical community serving on staff at Washington County Hospital, Frederick memorial Hospital, Cumberland Valley Surgery Center, and Robinwood Surgery Center. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons

Carol Hoover CST,CFA

Ms Hoover, is a surgical first assistant, and assists Dr Nguyen performing laser vein therapy at the center. Ms Hoover, who comes with over 25 years of surgical and patient care experience, is a valuable addition to the staff and our patients.

Ms Hoover has earned her surgical assisting credentials through the National Board of Surgical Technologists and Surgical Assisting after graduating from the Madisonville Community College surgical first assisting program. She received the Dean’s List award each year during her time there. Prior to her surgical assisting training, Ms Hoover was a Certified Surgical Technologists where she was employed in the operating room of Washington County Hospital.

Ms Hoover also has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in allied health education and an Associate Degree in applied sciences. Other certifications she holds are certification in nursing assistant and geriatric nursing assistant.

A native of Hagerstown, Ms Hoover remains active in her professional organizations. She is a member of the Association of Surgical Assistants; The Association of Surgical Technologist’s where she is a member of the National Honor Society and The Association of Surgical Technologists local Maryland chapter.

Leah Putterman, Surgical Specialist

Leah is the up-front person at the vein center. She will be the person you will see and talk with the most. Leah will use her expert skills and help guide you through the process from the initial office to the post treatment follow-up. She will set up all your appointments, obtain any insurance pre- authorizations needed, and answer your questions.

Leah has been performing her professional duties at the Laser Vein Center for Excellence since 2005 and has worked in the medical profession for years. Her pleasant personality and her professionalism provide our patients with a positive experience at the vein center.
