A 4 week beginning stained glass class: Finish one stained glass panel using copper foil techniques, selected designs and your glass choice and engraved bevels. The copper foil technique is very versatile… used in crafts, suncatchers, hanging panels, and large architectural settings.

After taking beginning stained glass classes, students want to start other projects. Continue with copper foil or try sandblasting glass or glass painting classes, enhancing your options when creating new designs.

No experience required. Children accompanied by adult welcome. Order tools/supplies prior to class (below). Discounted class fee if purchasing tools with class registration. 10% discounted tools/supplies during class and at the time of registration. Purchase three lessons initially, with additional days as needed.

Gift certificates for classes: Great gifts for "crafters" wanting stimulating experiences!

If you are trying to decide where to spend money when purchasing your initial stained glass tools, I feel a good cutter is worth the money spent. You can purchase throw away cutters that will do the job for a short period of time, but a good cutter will last a long time, has replaceable heads, and is comfortable to hold. There are many cutters to choose from, and usually it's a matter of preference about which one to use. I use a Toyo Comfort Grip cutter most often now, but as a beginner I liked the feel of the Pistol Grip cutter the best. Many stained glass artists have a variety of cutters they use if they continue working with glass.

Breaker groziers are important when taking any class where glass cutting will take place. If choosing between breaker groziers and breaker pliers as a beginner, I like the breaker pliers. The groziers, however, give you an additional advantage of being able to gnaw away at the edges of the glass where small amounts of glass need to be removed. This is a staple tool for any stained glass studio and is something you will want to purchase eventually.

Inland Temptrol soldering iron. Great for stained glass projects. This is another one of those tools that you may change the more you work with glass. What works well for you as a beginner, will probably not work as well for you as you progress. The nice thing about this iron is your ability to change the temperature. Working with lead came usually requires working at a lower temperature than when your working with copper foil. When working with brass, you will want an iron that gets pretty hot. This iron has the ability to be flexible if you work with copper foil, lead came, brass, zinc, or copper came. MSRP: $56.95
