Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which of my products should I sell on the Internet?
A: Virtually every product and service available in traditional marketing is (or soon will be) available on the Internet. It is likely your product or service is already available in some form on the Internet.
Do not be concerned if others offer something similar to, or exactly the same as your product or service. It does not matter if 100 or 1,000 other people are selling the same product or service on the Internet. Just as consumers make choices in traditional marketing based on price, quality, service, convenience, etc., so do the buyers on the Internet. Clearly, a product or service that people are interested in and are willing to buy is the single most important component for a successful Internet storefront.

Q: How large can my storefront be?
A: Your storefront includes 500 MB of hosting space for Web site content only. Each storefront can hold as many products as you want up to the storefront’s 500 MB size limit. We can host larger stores, although there is a small additional hosting charge for the additional disk space required. See the “Catalog of Products and Services” in this Getting Started Packet for fees on additional hosting space.

Q: What will my URL be, and can I use a domain name?
A: Each of your StoresOnline licenses allows you to create one Internet storefront. Each storefront has been assigned a unique URL (Uniform Resource Locator) that is different than any other URL on the Internet. A URL is commonly referred to as an Internet address because it tells all computers searching for your site where to find it. After your site is made public (i.e. published to the Internet), your storefronts’ default URL will be: http://www.storesonlinepro.com/store /license# (for instance, a merchant with the account number of 1323864, will have the following default URL once the site is made public: http://www.storesonlinepro.com/store/1323864 ). The distinguishing characteristic of the Default URL is the ending license number. With each storefront, the option to host one domain name is included. A domain name is a customized, easier-to-remember URL (such as “mystorename.com,”) that can be assigned to your storefront in addition to the default URL. Additional domain names may be pointed to your storefront for an additional cost. Refer to the “Catalog of Products and Services” for the cost of incorporating additional domain names. Refer to the StoresOnline Merchant Services section for more information on searching for and registering a domain name. When you are ready to attach your new domain name to your StoresOnline storefront, submit the Virtual Domain Hosting Form included in this package. Refer to Merchant Services or contact Customer Service for support or help.

Q: Which Internet browser do you recommend for viewing my storefront?
A: Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft’s Internet Explorer are the most popular and widely used browsers. Certain aspects of StoresOnline work best with Firefox. We recommend you use this browser to build and view your storefront. If you use a Macintosh computer from Apple, you will use the Safari browser that comes bundled with OS X.

Q: How do I contact Customer Service?
A: You may contact Customer Service by going to www.myquickresponse.com and clicking on the Online Chat link. A Customer Service representative will respond through our online chat support system. Similar to AOL Instant Messenger, you can electronically “chat.” Our online chat feature has proven very popular and efficient with our customers. The online chat requires Java. A link is provided on the site to download the most current version of Java if needed. Telephone support is also available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. by calling (801) 434-8582. (Long Distance charges from your phone company may apply)

Q: When I contact StoresOnline, how do I identify myself as a merchant?
A:   You have been assigned a unique StoresOnline Customer ID number. We use that Customer ID number extensively within StoresOnline to identify you and all files and functions associated with your account. Your Customer ID number was written in your Active Merchant Receipt (the sheet which includes your storefront license numbers and passwords). When communicating with StoresOnline via mail, online chat, fax, or phone, please provide your Customer ID number. This will help speed communications and avoid possible confusion.

Q: How long will it take to create my storefront and to start making money?
A: This is somewhat like asking an airline company, “How much is an airline ticket?” Or asking a doctor, “How long does it take to recover?” The answers depend on many variables, and without a lot of specific information, any answer could be unrealistic. Even arriving at the answer to these questions is a process.

Similarly, building a successful storefront is an ongoing process, not a single event. Mr. Lewis, in his welcome letter, included a “Suggested Action Plan”. Please review that document very carefully. Also, be sure to complete the Guided Tour of Merchant Services, contained in Part 1 of this Getting Started Packet.Your success on the Internet will be directly tied to how well and thoroughly you complete each step. Do not skip or shortchange any task. Your hard work and commitment through this process will help you to get the most out of your Internet storefront.
Most importantly, stay at it! We consistently find that our most successful merchants are those who take their Internet business seriously. These merchants regularly devote time to developing new products, researching what their clients like, updating their storefront, and working to improve their performance.

You can begin building your storefront as soon as you have completed your initial analysis and have all the important information ready to add to your storefront. Simply go online to https://www.storesonlinepro.com/account or submit your information to the StoresOnline programmers at http://www.storesonlineprogramming.com.

Q: Do I need a computer?
A: Yes.  In order to utilize the StoresOnline software and to do business on the Internet, you need a computer and Internet access.

Q: What if I don’t have a product to sell?  Can StoresOnline help me find one?
A: StoresOnline does not offer a product or list of products to be resold on the Internet or other sales channels.  StoresOnline provides software to set up and operate an eCommerce Website.  StoresOnline also provides resources to help the small business owner do market research on the product and locate potential drop shippers for that product.

Q: Does StoresOnline guarantee that I will earn money with my Internet business?
A: Three variables impact the success of any Internet Website:  the product sold, the price for which it is sold, and how well the Web site is promoted.  With no knowledge of what a potential customer would sell on the Internet, StoresOnline cannot offer any type of guarantee or claim any type of return on investment.

Q: Does StoresOnline provide a marketing plan?
A: Since StoresOnline does not know what product will be sold on the Internet, the Company cannot and does not provide a marketing or sales plan.  Through Merchant Services, customer support, and live training workshops, a customer can learn a variety of promotional strategies that are being used by others to drive qualified traffic to Web sites.  However, these resources are purely informational and are not specific to any one product.  For example, someone selling a tangible product on the Internet may apply different strategies from someone who is marketing a service.

Q: Does StoresOnline provide brochures or advertising materials to help me sell products on the Internet?
A: With no knowledge of what a customer would sell on the Internet, StoresOnline cannot and does not offer brochures or advertising materials.

Q: Does StoresOnline provide any training regarding the promotion, operation, or management of my Internet Web site?
A:  StoresOnline does not provide training specific to the promotion, operation, or management of any one business.  Instead, StoresOnline trains business owners and entrepreneurs in the general principles and strategies that can be used to promote an Internet Website.  This training is not specific to any one product, service, or business.  For example, an individual who attends college and earns a Master’s Degree in Marketing possesses knowledge that could be applied to the promotion of many different products and services.  Similarly, StoresOnline provides general training that can be applied to promote a broad spectrum of products and services on the Internet.

Q: Do I need anything else other than the Complete Store Building Packet  in order to launch an Internet Website?
A: The sale of products on the Internet requires three basic tools and services:  a Web site, a shopping cart, and an Internet merchant account.  StoresOnline provides all three of these components in one integrated platform.  StoreOnline’s unique software platform allows the entrepreneur and small business owner to build and maintain a Website using a point-and-click interface.  In other words, special programming languages like html are not required.  The shopping cart, merchant account, and databases are all part of the software so no other programming is required.  Hence, no other products or services are required to launch an eCommerce Website with StoresOnline.  However, StoresOnline is in contact with an array of businesses offering additional goods and services relating to StoresOnline’s eCommerce Website.  These additional related goods and services (e.g., personal mentoring/coaching, etc.) are NOT necessary to successfully launch an eCommerce Website, but many of our customers have found these additional, optional services to be useful.

Q: Will I make more money in my Internet business than I pay StoresOnline?
A: Since StoresOnline offers just the software and support to build and maintain an eCommerce Website, the Company makes no earnings-claims or guarantees about earnings.  Success on the Internet depends solely on the product or service being marketed, the price of that product or service, and how well the Website is promoted.

Q: Can StoresOnline tell me if there is a market for the product or service I want to sell on the Internet?
A: The Company cannot predict the marketability of a product.  However, StoresOnline provides training and access to the tools that help the small business owner and entrepreneur do the market research which aids in determining market demand and competitive variables.

Q: Does StoresOnline have a money back guarantee, or can I cancel my purchase of the Complete Store Building Packet?
A: Customers can cancel a purchase within three business days after the date of the purchase.  The Business-to-Business Order Form and the Notice of Cancellation clearly explain the steps necessary to cancel an order.  After our three-business day money-back guarantee, orders cannot be cancelled and refunds are not issued.

Q: Does StoresOnline provide a refund if I don’t make as much as I pay StoresOnline?
A: StoresOnline does not offer a refund outside of the three-day guarantee.  With no knowledge of what a potential customer would sell on the Internet, StoresOnline cannot offer any type of guarantee or claim any type of return on investment.

Q: Does StoresOnline sell a business opportunity?
A: StoresOnline does not sell a business opportunity.  StoresOnline provides products and services used by small business owners and entrepreneurs to set up and operate an eCommerce Website.  Ownership of StoresOnline’s tools does not constitute a business any more than a hammer makes someone a carpenter.  The tools must be put to use to be of value to the individuals who purchase them.

Q: Is StoresOnline’s software “easy” to use?
A: The StoresOnline software provides a graphical user interface that places control of all changes and maintenance of the Website with the customer, not a programmer.  Using simple, point-and-click interfaces, a customer can make design changes, add or delete products, process orders, and much more.  Like any software application, those not familiar with the store builder platform will have to learn how to use it.  Individuals with basic Internet browsing and keyboarding skills have been able to learn how to use the software quickly and have found the software to be very intuitive.  As you consider whether to build your initial website or submit it for programming, we recommend reading Part 3 in this packet.

Q: How does StoresOnline’s price compare to other eCommerce platforms?
A: StoresOnline is a one-stop, eCommerce shop that provides software, hosting, training, and merchant services to thousands of customers around the world.

When compared to similar eCommerce solutions, StoresOnline Pro is priced very competitively. In fact, a comparison of first year cost of ownership shows that StoresOnline is one of the least expensive eCommerce solutions on the market today. Why is StoresOnline so inexpensive compared to the rest? The answer is ownership.

Most Web site builders and hosting platforms charge a set up fee,  a monthly hosting fee,  and an additional percentage of all sales processed through the sites they host. That percentage of sales adds up quickly. StoresOnline is different. StoresOnline customers purchase their Web site licenses up front and completely own their sites thereafter. Although StoresOnline provides reliable, state-of-the art hosting services, StoresOnline Pro Web sites can be hosted anywhere. Most importantly, StoresOnline does not get a percentage of sales processed through customer Web sites. So after a year of doing business on the Internet the StoresOnline customer, on average, will pay less for setup, hosting, and overall Web site maintenance than the customers of other popular Internet hosting companies. Plus, after two years of doing business online, StoresOnline customers see an even greater savings.

The software platform alone is a tremendous value, but StoresOnline customers enjoy more than state of the art technology and hosting services. As part of the hosting agreement, StoresOnline customers have access to 24/7 customer support, and access to a library of Internet strategies, tutorials, and tools to help them drive qualified traffic to their Web sites.

Domain Names

Q: Why Would I Want A Domain Name?
A: If you are planning on advertising off the Internet (i.e. printed material) or would like a URL that is shorter or easier to remember, you may want to have your own domain name.

Q: Will A Domain Name Make Me More Successful On The Internet?
A: Perhaps. In addition to your keyword phrases, title, description and website content, your Domain Name might also be a contributing factor when marketing your site within Search Engines (see Search Engines).

Q: Can I Use My Own Domain Name Instead Of The Generic URL?
A: Yes, your account can host unique domain names. First, you will need to register your domain name with a domain name registrar company. After you have registered a domain name, login to your account and click the gray Domains tab of the Account menu. Once there, access the Help system; it has the most up-to-date information about configuring domain names for your account.

Q: How Do I Register A Domain Name?
A: Several companies offer domain name registration, however if you register your domain name through our affiliate Domain Registrar, your domain Account will automatically be configured to work with your account.   New Domains are added via the StoresOnline Keychain system which you log into to access your website.  To log into Keychain, visit www.myprologin.com.

A: Go to www.storesonline.com/domain or visit another registration company. Then, search to see if the name is available.

Q: What Are Domain Name Registration Costs?

Hosting a personalized domain name with StoresOnline is free for the first domain.

Q: Why Are There Fees With Domain Name Registrations?
A: The domain registration fees are payable to the organizations responsible for administering them, not StoresOnline. Everyone on the Internet, regardless of who hosts their websites, pays domain registration fees to have their own domain names.

HTML

Q: What Is HTML?
A: HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. It is a language that contains instructions. When you browse the Internet and visit websites, you receive text files with instructions. These instructions (termed “source code”) tell the Internet browser how to display text, images, audio, etc. as a “Web page.” Therefore, web pages are only text files (HTML files) containing these instructions for the browser.

Q: How Do I Use HTML Within The Account ?
A: The Account is designed to allow you to create your website without having knowledge of HTML. However, the integration of HTML elements can enhance your Storefront’s appearance. The primary way to successfully integrate HTML into your website is the use of text elements.

Meta Tags

Q: What Are Meta Tags?
A: Meta tags are an important part of your web page that your online visitors will not see. They are included in the HTML source code of a page, usually toward the top. Meta tags provide information about your web page that search engines can use when they index, list, and rank the page according to its keyword relevancy. In essence, Meta tags are elements of your page that tell search engines what the page is about.

Q: How Can Meta Tags Help Me Market My Products/Services?
A: Much has been said about the dwindling importance of Meta tags, and it is true that they are certainly not a magic solution for your Web marketing needs. Nevertheless, Meta tags should not be ignored, nor should you obsess over them. Designing effective Meta tags is only a step in your overall search-engine strategy, which, in turn, should only be a part of your entire marketing strategy.

Q: How Can I Find Out More About Meta Tags?
A: For more information about optimizing your site for search engines using Meta Tags, go to the "Basic Website Promotion Strategies" group of Merchant Services and read the article entitled "Relevancy Search Engine Optimization."

Programming Department

Q: How Do I Submit My Storefront for Programming?
A: The Getting Started Packet-Lesson 10b will help you gather and prepare all materials for your storefront and then submit them to StoresOnline. However, if at all possible, you should use the Account program to build your website. This will provide you with the fastest development track, teach you the skills needed to regularly update your storefront, and allow you to develop the tools to anticipate your customers’ needs. If, however, you wish to have programmers build your site, they are ready to assist you. Follow the instructions found in the “Getting Started Packet" or submit online by going to http://www.storesonlineprogramming.com.

Q: How Long Will It Take to Program My Storefront?
A: From the date we receive all of your completed storefront materials, plan on an average of 15 to 20 business days (Monday through Friday) for StoresOnline to complete the initial programming. (The speed of programming is dependant upon the size and complexity of your site and the number of storefronts being programmed by StoresOnline programmers). Obviously, each storefront is different, and smaller sites take less time to program than larger, more complex sites. After the initial programming is completed, you will be asked to review the storefront and communicate any desired corrections. Once these corrections are completed, your site will be published on the Internet. You can help expedite your storefront's programming by submitting thorough and complete storefront materials, including all required text, graphics, forms, and hosting and setup fees, and limiting the special programming required for your storefront. Also, after previewing the site, getting back to your programmer quickly with a single, comprehensive set of corrections will speed up the process.

Miscellaneous

Q: May I Cancel The Purchase I Made At The Workshop?
A: If you would like to cancel your purchase, refer to your "Business-to-Business Order Form." The terms of the contract are described in this form. Please feel free to contact our Customer Support Department if you have any questions (see Customer Support).

Q: Can I Sell My Storefront?
A: Yes, you can sell your storefront, but we do not recommend it. If you decide to sell your storefront, StoresOnline cannot, under any circumstances, give suggestions on the selling price, strategies, etc. Please feel free to contact our Customer Support Department (see Customer Support) or refer to the “Business-to-Business Order Form” if you have any questions.

StoresOnline provides software to set up and operate an e-commerce Website.

StoresOnline’s unique software platform allows the entrepreneur and small business owner to build and maintain a Website using a Point-and-Click interface. In other words, special programming languages like HTML are not required. The shopping cart, merchant account, and databases are all part of the software so no other programming is required. Hence, no other products or services are required to launch an e-commerce Website with StoresOnline. However, StoresOnline is in contact with an array of businesses offering additional goods and services relating to StoresOnline’s e-commerce Website. These additional related goods and services (e.g., personal mentoring/coaching, etc.) are NOT necessary to successfully launch an e-commerce Website, but many of our customers have found these additional, optional services to be useful.

Q: Will I make more money in my Internet business than I pay StoresOnline?
A: Since StoresOnline offers just the software and support to build and maintain an e-commerce Website, the Company makes no earnings-claims or guarantees about earnings.

StoresOnline provides products and services used by small business owners and entrepreneurs to set up and operate an e-commerce Website.

As you consider whether to build your initial website or submit it for programming, we recommend reading Part 3 in the Getting Started Packet.programmer.
