Dahlia

Dahlia

Dahlias are grown primarily for the beauty of their blooms, as well as for their lush foliage. They are tuberous-rooted tender perennials, grown from small brown biennial tubers planted in the spring. Dahlias can be planted in sunny locations on any kind of soil. They are best known for their profuse flowering from summer to frost, providing that late summer color to the garden when most perennials are past their prime. Removing wilted flowers will encourage additional blooms. After the flowering is done in the fall, lift the tubers and store them for replanting the following spring. Dahlias also make excellent pot plants and/or patio containers. Zones 7-10. Lift in cooler zones.
